The U.S. Bilateral African Chamber of Commerce (USBACC) hosted its First Fundraising Cocktail at the Houston Museum of African American Culture located on 4807 Caroline, Houston, TX 77004 on Friday, May 6th, 2011 at 8pm.
The event featured a brief presentation about USBACC’s first business conference titled “The Future of Africa: a symposium on development in Africa,” scheduled for Fall 2011.
Hosted by Akua Holt, Executive Producer for the Pan American Journal on 90.1 KPFT, the event featured networking, cocktails, an energetic performance by African dancers, and breath-taking Jazz performances by Mr VSAX and his band, complimentary South African wines, brought by Branwar Wine. Music was provided by DJ SM95.
A brief presentation about the recent developments of breast cancer in Africa by Dr Lovell A. Jones, Ph.D.(Director Center for Research on Minority Health) MD Anderson Cancer Center.
USBACC Advisory Board member Dr Mamadou S. Diallo introduced and spoke about the Future of Africa Conference.
Philippa Decuir, Founder and Director, Breast Cancer Initiative East Africa Inc informed us of the progress of her foundation in Africa and UlinZi walk, the first breast cancer walk in Africa scheduled to take place in June in Ruanda. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to Breast Cancer Initiative in East Africa (BCIEA).
In conclusion Nkem Oji, President of the USBACC informed members of the opportunities that the chamber offers and encouraged everyone to become a member
Nneka Achapu, Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of USBACC gave the closing remarks and thanked everyone for attending.
