2 Libyan soldiers stationed in the Bassingbourn Barracks in Cambridgeshire, England raped a drunken man while on a night out in October last year. Moktar Ali Saad Mahmoud, 33 and his accomplice, Ibrahim Abugtila, 23 were on a night out as part of the time off during their training program, but behaved like ‘hunting dogs’ targeting vulnerable young men in their twenties to be raped, according to Yahoo News.
Prosecutor John Farmer said the guilty men had “picked off” their victim like a “wounded animal.” The duo were jailed 12 years each on Friday, 15th May. The UK court had earlier convicted 3 men on Wednesday, 13th May, on a separate assault on young women on the same night out. His victim, whose identity cannot be disclosed said that he was raped by “3 Arab guys”.
“This was a truly horrendous crime and I hope today’s result will allow the victim some closure and to begin rebuilding his life,” police inspector Alan Page said outside court.
“These men deliberately targeted their victim because of his vulnerability that night, which they took advantage of to commit this callous crime.”
Khaled El Azibi 19, Naji El Maarif 21 and Mohammed Abdalsalam 28 were handed down prison terms for accosting and assaulting teenage girls on the same night out. The 3 soldiers were accused by their female victims as trying to kiss them and assault them when they resisted.
All the Libyan convicted Libyan soldiers were part of the 300 members of the Libyan cadets stationed in Bassingbourn Barracks, Cambridgeshire, Eastern England in a training program initiated by the UK and Libyan governments.
