Usually when one breaks a rule in major championships, the least one would expect is a bra blunder! However, Canadian player, Eugenie Bouchard broke the all-white Wimbledon’s dress code, wearing a visible black bra for her competition against China’s Ying-Ying Duan.
According to the Wimbledon rules:
A “competitor must be dressed in suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white and this applies from the point at which the player enters the court surround…White does not include off white or cream”.
The umpire, Louise Engzell, noticed this blunder, which he then confirmed but allowed the player to escape strict punishment for the offence. The 21 year old player claimed that she was unaware of the existence of such rules, which had not been shared with her by anyone.
She lost the match and currently undergoing some minor treatment in preparation for the next tournament.
Perhaps, this is a sign for her to sit with the rule book of Wimbledon and master all the restrictions!
