These are really trying times for the family of Thaiya Princetta Spurill-Smith, the two-year old toddler that was beaten to a state of coma by her stepfather David Adams, after which she was kept on life support for about a week while arguments over organ donation ensued with her parents. According to New York Daily News “Thaiya was declared brain-dead two days after her attack but kept artificially alive because her parents — who had fought over custody almost since her birth — held different views on organ donation.”
Little Thaiya was initially placed on life support but eventually about a week later, she was laid to rest. About 100 family members and friends gathered at the Grace Funeral Chapel in East New York to pay their last respect as they took the last look of Thaiya’s angelic face as her lifeless body lay in a white coffin with white draperies. A cute picture of the late Thaiya wearing a bring yellow dress, looking happy and angelic was displayed at close sight. As Thaiya’s casket was loaded onto a waiting hearse, a number of black and gold balloons were released into the air by her family.
Check out some of the pictures at the funeral.
