An unexpectedly high number of suicide bombings rocked the nation in the past few days, including two confirmed incidents involving suicide bombers blowing themselves up.
The first incident was on Sunday afternoon, 1st of February, when a male suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of an old market. Two people were confirmed killed. The second incident on the same day and just minutes apart from the first bombing was another bomb detonation at the timber market near the 301 Artillery Regiment Quarters of the Nigerian army, killing three people, according to a report by Punch. Both incidents happened in Gombe State.
On the same day, another suicide bomber walked into the home of a Yobe State politician and detonated himself, killing five people. scores were injured but the exact figure was undetermined at the time of the report.
On Monday, 2nd of February, three High Court buildings in River State were also blasted with bombs. The bombs were reportedly planted on the premise of Degema, Isiokpo and Port Hancourt Courts. The Degema Court was the most damaged, as the building was completely razed down together with valuable court documents stored inside. Rivers State Police Commander Ahmad Muhammad confirmed the blasting of the Court buildings.
