Gen. Muhammadu Buhari will be challenging current President Goodluck Jonathan for the presidency in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, scores of people were killed in 3 separate recent bombing incidents in Borno State that left at least 47 people dead and over 30 injured. With ISIS’s acceptance of Boko Haram’s pledge of allegiance, no one can say for a fact what this means or can lead too for the Country. Prior to the multiple Borno killings, several suicide bombing incidents were also recorded in the country which left quite a number of victims as an aftermath of the attacks.
In this environment of brutal actions, the APC (All Progressives Congress) Presidential Candidate frontman continues to live up to his role as the flag bearer of the party and remains as GEJ’s main contender for the upcoming presidential elections. On the other side, the opposing PDP (People’s Democratic Party) has given current President Jonathan the nod to “defend” his position. At the same time, military representatives keep saying that things are looking better regarding the incidents of Islamist violence but the capability to protect civilians’ lives has been questioned again after these recent killings, especially when one considers that one of the reasons why the general elections was initially postponed was to curtail the wings of the Islamist terrorist group ‘Boko Haram.’
Muhammadu Buhari is considered by many a good alternative to fill the position and could be a better option to face the revolt of the last years. Although the military under the present government have reportedly been able to recapture several cities from the insurgents, which is a great achievement on their part. Buhari and his party have been continuously criticizing the government for failing to rescue the 219 Chibok schoolgirls that were abducted in April 2014. Moreover, they accuse Jonathan of failure to guarantee security for the citizens of Nigeria and solve corruption issues.
Buhari has promised to “guide” Nigeria with a democratic government.
“What I will give you, and this nation is all of my strength, commitment, sweat and toil in the service of the people. What I can give you is my all”, he stated after winning the presidential primary round.
Nigerian Presidential elections is scheduled to hold on March, 28 2015. Let us continue to pray for our beloved country that God’s will should reign supreme in the choice of a ruler over Africa’s most blessed nation ‘Nigeria’.
