President Barack Obama responded to a little girl who burst into tears when her grandmother told her that the President couldn’t stay in office forever.
‘Caprina, tell her to dry her tears, because I’m not going anywhere,’ Obama said on the video of the incident, uploaded to Facebook by the girl’s grandmother, Caprina D Harris.
‘Once I leave the White House, I’ll still be a citizen just like her,’ he added. ‘And when she grows up, she can get involved right alongside me.
‘In the meantime, I’ll keep an eye out for her letter, and we’ll always get to celebrate our birthdays together!’
The video shows the little girl’s devastating reaction to Obama leaving office and has garnered more than 2 million views on Facebook.
Harris tells the little girl in the clip: ‘He can only serve two terms, and his time is up.’
Her granddaughter cries out: ‘No! No!’
Harris, whose Facebook profile says she lives in Birmingham, Alabama, replies: ‘It’s okay, we gotta vote for another president.’
‘I’m not ready!’ her distraught granddaughter says.
‘Oh?’ Harris asks.
Tears welling in her eyes, the girl sobs out: ‘I’m not ready for a new one!’
Harris tells her: ‘Oh, it’s okay. You know, he has to be here only eight years. It’s okay, we can write him a letter.’
The girl, who is sobbing and making noises, is seen wiping her tears off her face.
Harris wrote on Facebook: ‘On Saturday morning just before Gymnastics, My Dranbaby found out that our President Barack Obama was no longer going to be our President!!!
‘He has been her President all of her life and Yes her birthday is also on AUGUST 4!!!! My poor baby!!!’
Obama was born on August 4, 1961.
