In a recent BBC interview, Nigeria’s Nobel Prize winning author and playwright Wole Soyinka strongly criticized the two main Presidential Candidates in the forthcoming general elections Nigeria. During the interview, Soyinka stated that the country should have come up with far better contenders to vie for the highly sought after presidential position in Nigeria. The famous playwright described President Goodluck Jonathan, who is running for a second full-term, and opposition leader Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as “problematic candidates”.
Jonathan’s campaign for re-election has been heavily criticized by others for his mishandling of the 6-year insurgency by militant Islamist group Boko Haram and further discredited by Soyinka and others for the failure of the President to rescue over 200 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok since April 2014.
