Actor Mark Wahlberg better known by his famous moniker ‘Marky Mark‘ and a one time Calvin Klein model has a tumultuous past back in his youth when he was charged for racist hate crimes in two incidents back in 1986 and 1988, according to BET.
While filling a defense for civil rights action last November before a judge, he expressed remorse for his past actions, which was due to substance abuse and youthful indiscretion but never acknowledged the racist element of his misdeeds. He requested the judge to pardon him for these past actions that would have caused grievous harms to others in an incident in 1986 where he hurled rocks and uttered derogatory racist remarks at black school children. Two years later, he attacked two Asians as well in an act that was simply motivated by racism.
Civil rights prosecutor, Judith Beals who secured a civil rights injunction against the young actor almost three decades ago recounted that the judge had erred when pardoning him without securing his apology of racism behind the motives of his injurious actions against others.
The actor however recently expressed remorse with the following statement:
“I’ve been looking for redemption (since) the day I woke up and realized that I done some horrific things and was on a path of self-destruction, as well as causing a lot of people harm,” Wahlberg, 43, said in December. “When I decided to go and petition for a pardon, it wasn’t based on the things I accomplished in my career. It’s been the things I’ve been able to do in my personal life: giving back to the community and helping kids, especially inner-city kids and at-risk youth and kids growing up in that same situation.”
Mark Wahlberg was a one time cover boy for Calvin Klein wearing his trademarked Calvin Klein underwear, a pose that has become an iconic image of the actor cum model.
