Following the announcement that Liberia was now Ebola-free by the World Health Organization over the weekend, Liberia declared a public holiday and the citizens took to the streets of Monrovia on Monday, May 11th to join in the official celebration, MailOnline reports.
The public holiday was declared to enable everyone – including pupils and workers – to participate in the celebration of the official eradication of the deadly virus from their country.
Liberia’s year-long ebola virus epidemic led to the death of 4,700 people, a figure that is reportedly higher than that of any other country.
