Jennifer Hudson’s brother-in-law broke his silence for the first time in seven years after giving his first interview since he was convicted of murdering the actress’ family.
William Balfour told ABC 7 that he had nothing to do with the death of Hudson’s mother, 57-year-old Darnell Donnerson, and her brother Jason, 29, who were found shot to death in October 2008 inside their Chicago home.
Three days later police found the body of Hudson’s nephew Julian King, 7, who had died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Balfour had recently separated from Julian’s mother and Hudson’s sister, Julia, who was at work when the murder of her brother and mother occurred and was the first to discover their bodies.
Balfour, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole, also said he has begun to search for the killer and believes he will find the person responsible for the brutal murders.
‘I didn’t have nothing to do with the case and don’t know who had anything to do with the case,’ Balfour said at the start of the interview, emphasizing like his lawyers did at trial that most of the evidence in the case was circumstantial.
The only eyewitnesses to the murders were also the victims, however cell phone records placed Balfour in the area at the time and gunshot residue was found on his clothing and inside his car.
The keys to a white SUV was also discovered with him when he was apprehended by police, the same SUV where the body of young Julian was found three days after he was reported missing following the murder of his grandmother and uncle.
Balfour also claims that he was framed and that people lied on the stand, including his ex-wife and Julia. Both women said that he had threatened to kill them in the past. ‘Not one time did I ever threaten her, period,’ said Balfour of Julia.
He also talked about Julian, saying; ‘This was a child that I used to see all the time, tried to get him to ride a bike, all the time. I mean… I don’t know… Do I miss him? Yea. Do I love him? Yea.’
When asked what he thought about the person who killed Julian, Balfour replied; ‘Heartless, straight heartless. He isn’t got no family morals, nothing.’
