Jackie Chan, the Hong Kong Kung-fu star’s only son Jaycee Chan, 32, was recently indicted by Beijing prosecutors on a drug charge for sheltering others to use drugs and he may end up being jailed for up to three years. This drug scandal has been quite embarrassing for Jackie Chan, who was previously named by Beijing as an Anti-Drug Ambassador in 2009. In a report by China’s official Xinhua News Agency, Chan said he feels nothing but shame for his son.
Jackie Chan, who is a member of China’s top national political advisory panel told Xinhua that he was not planning to use his connections to interfere with the law regarding his son’s drug case but he hopes that his singer-actor son will eventually become an anti-drug ambassador when he is released.
The younger Chan who has appeared in several films and has released three album was detained by Policemen at his Beijing apartment along with Taiwanese movie star Ko Kai. Chan and Ko reportedly tested positive for marijuana and both of them admitted to using the drug. Also, about 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of drugs were taken from Chan’s home. Ko Kai was however released after a 14-day administrative detention for drug use, but Chan, who faces more serious criminal charge had remained in detention since August. Chan told police officers that he has been using drugs for about eight years while Ko testified on camera that he had also used drugs at Chan’s home.
