The Islamic State released a video on Sunday which purportedly showed the beheading of a group of Egyptian Christians that were kidnapped in Libya. According to Reuters, Egypt’s state news agency MENA confirmed from Coptic Church’s spokesman that 21 Egyptian Christians believed to be held as hostages by ISIS are now dead.
The video which appeared on a Twitter feed of a website that supports the Islamic State, showed militants in black marching the captives, dressed in orange jump suits, to a beach that the group said was near Tripoli where they were forced to go down on their knees, before they were beheaded. The caption on the five-minute video read: “The people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian church.”
It was reported that thousands of Egyptians have migrated to neighboring Libya in search of jobs since the 2011 uprising at home despite advice from their government not to move to a country basked in lawlessness.
