An Indian national working in Nigeria, Vishwaniph Mishall, 46, faked his own kidnap and demanded a ransom of N10 million from his employer. According to source from Enugu State Police, he was living in Abuja and went to Enugu State to pull off his ruse by getting a friend to call his employer, saying he was kidnapped and a ransom of N10 million had to be paid to a specific bank account provided. His employer paid the money into the bank account, however, he was immediately apprehended when he went to collect the money in the Bank in Enugu State.
The Enugu Police department released the following statement to the press:
“Day after the report of alleged kidnap of Mishall Vishwaniph (male) 46 years old Indian national in Abuja. Police anti-kidnap squad tracked and intercepted the said man as he pick up the ransom in Enugu State at about 8.00 am of 12.2.15. The said Mishall was immediately arrested. He stated he fake his kidnap as a ploy to get money off his boss – FCT CID is investigating.”
