Former Nigerian Olympian, Falilat Ogunkoya who won a bronze medal in the Track and Field in Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 has great hopes that junior athletes who are making strides in the continent’s wide Track and Field recently. She made this statement during an interview with Punch, saying her comments is entirely based on her observation of their performance in the field lately. She is confident they will carry the national colors by winning medals at the All Africa Games (AFG) 2015 in Congo and the Rio De Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016.
Divine Oduduru had won the 200m (men) at the recently concluded 12th African Junior Athletes Championship in Ethopia. Temidayo Osibanjo also bagged the championship for the women heptathlon at the same event.
“I have watched them run and do what they know how to do and I have seen that they have the capability to do great things in the sport,” she continues. “They only need to keep training harder to improve themselves. They also should be given the needed support to enable them to do better than they have been doing. With these, they can win a gold medal at the Olympics.”
