A drink-driving mother has been jailed for deliberately reversing a car into two teenage girls as they sat on a bench, Daily Mail reported.
According to the reports, Jessica Bryant, 22, was over the drink-drive limit and had no licence or insurance when she climbed behind the wheel of a friend’s car and ploughed into the two youngsters.
The court heard how Bryant was shown on CCTV driving past the group in a pedestrianised area of Gillingham High Street, Kent, just after 3.30am in November last year.
Prosecutor Antony Hook told Maidstone Crown Court that Bryant then reversed the Vauxhall Corsa at speed, using the car as a ‘weapon’ to smash into Emily Church, 15, and Molly King, 17, Daily Mail reported.
Friends of the two girls then chased after Bryant, pulling her out of the car. When she was later arrested, she was found to be one-and-a-half times over the legal drink-drive limit.
Bryant, who is from Gillingham, admitted unlawful wounding, assault causing actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and having no driving licence and insurance.
Judge Philip Statman sentenced her to 14 months in prison at Maidstone Crown Court and banned her from the road for three years.
He said: ‘It is clear you drove the car in a dangerous manner. In my judgement, you deliberately collided with those sitting on the bench.
‘You used this car as a weapon. You had no licence and little driving experience. I don’t suppose if you are sitting there at 3am you think you are going to be hit by a vehicle reversing at speed.
He added: ‘I have absolutely no hesitation in indicating these offences clearly pass the custody threshold.’
The court heard how Miss Church had been left with a ‘chunk’ missing from the back of her leg and a suspected broken ankle.
She was on crutches for a week and had to miss school for two weeks. She has also been left scarred and too embarrassed to wear shorts or a skirt, the court heard.
Her injuries meant she also had to drop her favourite subject, PE GCSE.
Meanwhile, Miss King was left with bruising to her lower right leg and is fully recovered.
