Cameroon had a graceful exit from Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2015 qualifying round on Wednesday, 28th January after a 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast. The team had earlier locked in a goalless 1 – 1 draw with Mali and Guinea of the same group. Ivory Coast striker Max-Alain Gradel decisively delivered the solitary goal that sealed the fate of the Cameroonians. However, Cameroon coach, Volker Finke defended his team saying his boys gave their best.
“We tried really hard. Everyone gave their best, so that’s why we can’t say the team didn’t try to the end,” He insisted. “I think really the Ivory Coast took advantage of a little mistake we made in the first half to score the goal,” continues Finke.
Captain Stephane Mbia also defended his team saying all the players played as best as they could, and since most of them are very young, the best is still in the offing.
