This sad incident occurred when a British Airways stewardess began showing symptoms of the Malaria disease after her stay in a hotel in Accra, The Independent reports. The unnamed woman was reportedly working on a long-haul flight from Heathrow to the Ghanaian capital of Accra.
This incident comes six years after a British Airways steward died after catching the most deadly strain of malaria after also working on a flight from Heathrow to Ghana, The Independent further reported.
British Airways in a statement reported by The Independent said:
“We were deeply saddened to hear of the death of our colleague. Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this difficult time.”
Malaria is a common disease in sub-Saharan Africa, and is usually spread by mosquitoes.
