A recent video from TMZ caught Ariana Grande saying, “What the f–k is this? I hate Americans. I hate America.”
The video has since gone viral as she made this statement on the fourth of July weekend when she was supposed to be most patriotic. She made the comment at a doughnut shop after seeing a platter of large doughnuts, unaware that she was being caught on tape.
She has responded to the criticisms by saying she was sorry for her “poor choice of words” NY Daily News reports.
“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country,” she said.
Grande explained that her comments emerged from her disappointment with how freely Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences on their health and the society.
“I should have known better in how I expressed myself, and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better.” She stated. “What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words.”
She also confirmed that she would not be available for the 86th annual All-Star Game concert.
