A fisherman who went to the Utah river on Saturday hoping to haul out some fish, apparently saw more than he planned for, when he sighted an overturned car that ended up having a baby that may have been trapped in the car seat for possibly half a day and a dead mother, according to CNN.
When rescuers arrived at the scene, they found an 18-month-old girl strapped in her car seat, but miraculously still alive. The condition of the baby who is currently at the Salt Lake City hospital was deemed critical. They also found the body of Lynn Jennifer Groesbeck, the 25-year-old of the baby’s mother, in the driver’s seat.
This incident is currently being investigated as a traffic accident by the police, but it leaves many questions unanswered.
“This is just a tragedy all the way around,” Spanish Fork Police Lt. Matt Johnson said. “There’s not anything at the scene, as far as evidence goes, as why the vehicle left roadway. There were no skid marks to show evasive maneuvers, to show why the vehicle left the roadway and traveled into the river.”
The car has been towed and is being examined to determine whether the accident was caused by a brake failure or some other malfunctioning in the car, according to Johnson.
