One of the highest grossed movie in the United States so far this year, “Fifty Shades of Grey“, which recently hit box office by grossing a whooping $81.7 million when it was released in US theaters last weekend. Click here if you missed it! However, the movie has not been widely received globally with many countries banning its screening in most cinemas. Kenya, Indonesia and Malaysia had previously banned the movie, and Nigeria recently joined the list of counties banning the public screening of the movie in theaters.
The movie was initially screened in Nigerian cinemas on the first week of release, but the National Film and Video Censor Board (NFVSB) shortly after ordered its removal from the local cinema circuit. The exact reason for banning the movie was not clearly stated, but the general consensus is that the content of the movie which is deemed sexually explicit in some jurisdictions resulted in it being banned.
