The 46th annual NAACP Image Awards held yesterday night in Pasadena, California, and had a number of famous Hollywood faces gathered together at the event, which is organized to recognize the best in African-American achievements in TV, movie and music. “Selma”, “How to Get Away With Murder”, Black-ish, Taraji P. Henson, Shemar Moore and Tracee Ellis Ross were among the top honors yesterday night.
Shemar Moore gave a memorable and noteworthy acceptance speech, because it came straight from the heart while caught off-guard by saying: “My heart is jumping out of my chest right now because I did not see this coming. I came to show respect to a town that may think they know me, but I have not introduced myself yet, but I came to show respect to my peers, Oprah Winfrey and the likes, the hottest of the hot and the newcomers because nobody in my life, my family saw me making my way, that I’ve made my way, and I promise you I’ve only just begun. But I’m so humbled, and I’m so grateful to have the 21 years that I’ve had. I did not see this coming.”
“I came with my girlfriend, Shawna Gordon. I was, like, it’s our first time on the red carpet tonight. We’re going to take some pictures, boo. We’re going to have a good time. We’re going to see some fancy people. Oprah’s going to be in the house. Laurence Fishburne’s going to be in the house. She’s, like, what do I wear? Do I wear a long dress or short dress? I said just look good and show off your ass. That’s all I said. This speech is going to be random, I know, I got it, I got it. ABC, CBS, Criminal Minds, my fans, my baby girls, my homies, my mother, Marilyn Wilson Moore, I’m a dreamer. And this is proof positive that dreams do come true. Thank you for this moment.”
