The 2010 Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) took place on Saturday September 18th at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, in New York. The annual ceremony aimed to recognize outstanding achievements and major contributions of Nigerians around the world to the entertainment industry.
The much-anticipated event, like any other awards ceremony, was graced by many of Nigeria’s top entertainers from around the globe. Hosted by Omawumi, West African Idol finalist and multi award winner, the show was well attended by Nigerians from cities all over the United States, and all the way from Nigeria.
The red carpet show was hosted by Uduak Oduok (aka Ladybrille), model and visionary in the fashion and entertainment industry, and was graced by celebrities including singer Lara George, Gbenga Akinnagbe from HBO’s The Wire, 2010 BET Nominated rapper M.I and brother Jesse Jagz. Other stars in attendance included actor Jim Iyke, supermodel and former Miss World, Agbani Darego, former Big Brother Africa housemate Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, upcoming music producer Kid Konnect and the award-winning singer 2Face.
The night’s winners included the late rapper DaGrin, Omawumi, M.I, 2Face, Iceberg Slim, DJ Zimo among others.
The show also included various musical performances – Lara George pleased the audience with a beautiful rendition of her song, Ko Ma Si. M.I. also confirmed the news of his leaving the music industry to pursue acting, and gave the crowd a taste of one of his never-heard-before, new singles. Other artists who performed include 2Face, Jesse Jagz, Jaywon and Artquake.
All in all, it was a great show, no doubt with room for improvement in production and organization, and we look forward to the next one!
