Daily Mail, UK recently reported that a Zimbabwean woman who was accused of using witchcraft to kill a boy, was lynched by a mob and subsequently burnt to death. The woman was said to have carried out the act in conjunction with a male companion in a shanty town near Pretoria, South Africa. Her male companion however managed to escape the mob and disappeared, leaving her being mauled by the mob.
“The woman died when she was burnt alive by a mob [while] the man was rescued by police and taken to hospital,” local police spokeswoman Katlego Mogale told AFP.
“He was discharged Monday night,” she added.
Subsequent police investigation revealed the boy died as a result of electrocution and not through black art. Three people have been apprehended in the murder of the woman, according to the report, but they are currently only facing charges related to public violence because “there were 500 people and more evidence is needed” to accuse the three of them of lynching the victim, Mogale said.
