When a Japanese boy was chosen to greet Cristiano Ronaldo while he was in Japan, he stumbled over more complicated sentences in Portuguese and the audience made jests of his not-too-good Portuguese communication skills.
The video shows the boy struggling to read in Portuguese while the crowd made fun of him. Ronaldo however turned to his translator off camera asking in reference to the audience:
“Why they smile? Why? He speaks good Portuguese. Very good. They should be happy because he tries very hard.”
The audience was ridiculed with a bashful applause and Cristiano Ronaldo earned some serious respect. The video was recently obtained by Times from the Real Madrid superstar’s tour in Japan last year.
