History repeated itself on a Sunday evening, at the House of Blues. Barely one month has passed since the powerful combination of Stanley Egbo, Richard Otubusin, and Joseph Clarke, also known as GrindAlive organized a sold out WALE show.
GrindAlive hosted R&B legend Myron Avant, known as AVANT, on a night that was suited for nothing less, on valentine’s eve. Having a pre-sale of over 1000 tickets even before the door opened at 7pm, the show was a guaranteed hit. A long queue of restless ticket buyers rapidly wrapped around the colossal building. GrindAlive has a reputation of not just having sold-out shows but having quality shows and you can sense the high expectation in the air amongst anxious loyal followers. The show began exactly at 7:35pm. Houston local, ANZEO, who has appeared on American Idol and was also a finalist on MTV’s Making the Band, got on stage and immediately got the crowd cheering. We were all in for a surprise when a young man got on stage shortly after Anzeo’s act to propose to his future fiancée. I bet all the married men in the building wished they had thought of that. It was time for Prairie View’s local champion PHILL WADE, to dazzle the crowd. He wasted no time showing why he is fast becoming a musical force and Houston’s favorite upcoming R&B Artist.
Anticipation grew amongst the crowd and loud chants of Avant were heard in different parts of the concert music hall. DJ Youngstreetz was able to keep them at ease with his artistically orchestrated mixes. He definitely had people on their feet. “This is moment we have all been waiting for, ladies, fellas, please join me in welcoming to the stage, r&b legend, AVANT!!!” Anzeo yelled. AVANT got on stage to one of his most popular his singles “Making Good Love“, electrifying the crowd almost instantaneously.

45 minutes later, the AVANT still had everyone on their feet dancing and singing his lyrics. He was nice enough to stay and take pictures with all his fans afterwards. Everybody had fun at the show and didn’t want to go home just yet. When one of the GrindAlive executives was asked if there was an after party for the event, he responded “We are a concert promotion company, we leave the smaller events for the others”. It was a good show all in all, nice crowd, quality opening acts, solid performance from AVANT himself. Which leads me to one question, when is the next GRINDALIVE event?
