According to a report by the Associated Press, Veronica J. Rutledge, was accidentally shot and killed after her 2-year-old son pulled a loaded handgun from his mother’s purse while the mom was shopping at a Walmart store in Hayden, Idaho on Tuesday.
It was reported that this extremely sad incident happened while the 29-year-old woman, who had a concealed weapons permit was shopping in the store’s electronics department with her toddler son and three other children, and her son who was seated in her shopping cart reached into the mom’s purse, grabbed a loaded small-caliber handgun, which discharged instantaneously.
Terry Rutledge, who is the victim’s father-in-law, told The Associated Press that Veronica Rutledge was a beautiful, young, loving mother, she was not the least bit irresponsible,” …. “She was taken much too soon.” Rutledge said.
The woman’s husband was reportedly not in the store when the unfortunate incident occurred but he arrived shortly after the shooting happened and took the other children to a relative’s house.
