In what was described as the largest single day ‘ bloodbath’ for the cyber supporters of the Islamic terrorist group ISIS, Twitter removed 10,000 of its users’ account within a short span of 24 hours.
The company did not communicate the details of the user accounts but it was reported by NDTV Gadget that on 2nd April, the social network company suspended 10,000 accounts in a single day.
Twitter has become the single largest recruitment platform for ISIS and had been severely criticized for not doing anything about ISIS regarding who leverage on their social media network to recruit and spread its violent propaganda. This came at the heels of an anti-terror hackers’ group called ‘Anonymous’ exposing over 9,200 ISIS supporters over the internet last month. The hacktivist group seeks to expose more ISIS supporters over the internet and Twitter is feeling the heat that its platform is being used by the terrorist group to spread mayhem around the world.
“The more attention it gets the more likely it becomes Twitter takes action in removing these accounts and making a serious impact on the ability of ISIS to spread propaganda and recruit new members,” the group said on Medium.
“I encourage you all to do your duty not only as a citizen of the world but also as a member of the Internet community and re-post this on social media,” they added.
“You will be treated like a virus, and we are the cure. We own the Internet,” Anonymous said, as reported by Christian Post.
“You will not impose your sharia law in our democracies, we will not let your stupidity kill our liberties and our freedom of expression.”
