Pop singer, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to fellow pop star Kesha on to aid her in funding her battle to get out of a contract with Dr. Luke who she has accused of raping her.
But despite the gift, Taylor was criticized by Demi Lovato for not speaking out on the issue and suggested that the donation was only in a bid to ‘further her brand’.
Demi said she was tired of female singers using feminism to ‘further brands without actually being the ones to have uncomfortable conversations’.
She soon found herself locked in a war of words with fans of Swift after accusing the Shake it Off singer of ‘throwing money’ at Kesha’s situation.
An account called proudofswift took Demi to task, saying: ‘The fact that Demi took the attention off of the REAL issue, which is Kesha, and put it on her and what seems to be a new ‘rivalry’, really shows her true character. Proud of Taylor Swift for donating money to help Kesha through this time.’
Demi promptly clapped back at the post and denied she was using Kesha’s misfortune as a platform to talk about herself.
She said: ‘How the f*** am I making this about myself? At least I’m talking about it. ‘Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn’t grow up with money and def (sic) haven’t made as much as her. ‘At least I speak up about s*** that’s uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7.
‘There’s no rivalry. I just give more f**** than other people and would rather start a dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person.’
Legal bills might increase as the hit producer vigorously denies Kesha’s claims with his lawyers accusing her of running a ‘smear campaign’ to destroy his career and of holding a ‘trial by twitter’, according toTMZ.
A rep for Swift confirmed that Swift had donated the cash to help Kesha in her legal battle with Dr. Luke, the megahit producer.
On Friday, Kesha broke down in court after a judge denied her the approval to get out of her contract with Dr. Luke, who has worked with artists ranging from Britney Spears to Katy Perry to Nicki Minaj.
The judge in New York ordered that Kesha, 28, must honor her contract with Sony even though she has claimed that producer Dr. Luke had drugged and raped her.
