The Hollywood award season is now in full swing with the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards that held last week and the Oscar nominations that was announced that same week. However, as we look forward to the Oscars, we take a look back at what really went down at the most recently concluded award ceremony ‘Critics Choice Awards’ by the Broadcast Film Critics Association to honor the best in cinematic achievement!
So, our main takeaways from the award ceremony are:
• Birdman took away the most awards of the day, by carting away a total of seven including best actor for Michael Keaton, best acting ensemble and best cinematography.
• Michael Keaton was on stage three times to accept awards for Birdman.
• Boyhood won a total of four awards including, best picture, Patricia Arquette won best supporting actress, Richard Linklater got the best director and best young actor/actress went to Ellar Coltrane.
• The Lego Movie which was snubbed by the Academy, won the Critics’ Choice Awards for best animated feature.
• Both Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie attended the event, were spotted on the red carpet together for the first time in 6 years and were seated 3 tables from each other.
• Selma had only one award in the Best Song category for Common and John Legend’s “Glory”, an award it earlier received at the Golden Globes.
• David Oyelowo, Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey showed a bold face despite earlier Oscar snubs from the Academy in the best actor and director categories.
• Carmen Ejogo, who played Coretta Scott King in Selma said the day had been “bittersweet” for the cast (Oscar announcement came earlier in the day before the Critics award ceremony).
• Kevin Costner when accepting his lifetime achievement award thanked a host of industry celebrities but said he thought “that there’s been some kind of mistake. Like this isn’t for me, I’m really accepting this for Sean Connery or Gene Hackman because they couldn’t be here themselves.”
• The all-star glammed up night can definitely not be described without mention of the best dressed stars that rocked the red carpet with their gorgeous looks! Some of our favorites celebrities and styles are: Diane Kruger in a Naeem Khan gown, Jennifer Aniston in a Gucci suit, Jessica Chastain in an Antonio Berardi dress, Angelina Jolie in a liquid-silver gown and Emily Blunt in a fiery Gucci gown.
