Over the past couple of years, Nigeria has been facing acts of violence from terrorist group, Boko Haram. In a recent report, a male suicide bomber attacked a Redeemed Christian Church of God parish in Jigawa area of Potiskum Town, Yobe State, Nigeria on Sunday, 5th July.
At about 10 a.m., the bomber entered the on-going service and detonated the bomb killing six people, including a pastor, a woman, her two children and the bomber.
The police Public Relations Officer in Yobe, Toyin Gbadegesin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a female member of the church who sustained injuries also died while receiving treatment in the hospital.
The former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerians to pray for the interim government, Pres. Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as he tackles the attacks that have affected different parts of the nation.
Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice-president of Nigeria has so far expressed his criticisms regarding the violence and hopes that Nigerians would provide needed assist for the current administration.
The explosion inside the Redeemed Church represents the first time the insurgent Islamist group has targeted a church for bombing since President Muhammadu Buhari took over power on May 29, 2015!
