Ed Sheeran, 23 is one of the music artists that left a mark in 2014. With more than a successful year in which he saw his album “X” selling millions of copies worldwide and his songs topping the charts, the English singer and songwriter has already gained worldwide recognition. After appearing at the annual Victoria’s Secret show 3 weeks ago alongside top models like Adrianna Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio, it was time for more good news to come his way.
Spotify, the popular music streaming service with 50 million users and more than 7 billion hours of music streamed in 2014, just released the listing of ‘the most streamed artists in 2014’. And as you can guess, Ed Sheeran was the most streamed artist this year, beating other prominent artists like Eminem, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, and Katy Perry. But this does not really come as a surprise as this year was a very remarkable one for Sheeran with him dominating the music industry globally.
The success of his album and subsequent singles pushed Sheeran to top both the 2014 most streamed artist (with more than 860 million listens) and most streamed album (with more than 430 million streams) on Spotify’s list.
Other artistes recognized on Spotify charts include Katy Perry, who is ‘the most listened female artist’, Coldplay is ‘the most streamed group’, Pharrell’s hit “Happy” was the #1 in ‘the most streamed songs’ list and Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” was the most viral song of 2014.
