Sam Simon, co-creator of ‘The Simpsons’ died on Sunday in his home in Los Angeles, after a year-long battle with cancer, as TMZ first reported. Shortly after the confirmation of the sad news, the ‘The Simpsons’ showrunner, Al Jean tweeted: ‘A great man. I owe him everything.’
Simon was diagnosed with cancer back in 2012, and at the time was given three months to live. He donated his $100 million fortune to charity and animal rights fund, as he is the founder of the ‘Sam Simon Foundation’, an organization that provides assistance dogs for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.
The foundation posted a note on Facebook, remembering Simon:
It is with much sadness that we must let you know that Sam Simon has passed over. We all miss him, and in his honor, we will continue bringing his vision to light through our work at The Sam Simon Foundation. We take comfort in knowing how many greetings he is receiving across that Rainbow Bridge. We love you Sam!
Over the years, Sam Simon has won nine Emmys for his work on ‘The Simpsons’ as well as ‘The Tracey Ullman Show’.
Rest in peace!!!
