It’s definitely David Oyelowo’s time! Regardless of whether he got a Best Actor nod or not from the Academy, the actor is on his way to greater and bigger things! In the just-released sneak peek of Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood issue released yesterday, the Selma Star was spotted on the foldout cover, and to everyone’s surprise, he was the only non-white face on the entire cover that was shot by Annie Leibovitz. Other celebrities on the cover include: Reese Witherspoon, Amy Adams, Channing Tatum, Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Sienna Miller, Oscar Isaac and Miles Teller.
The lack of diversity in this year’s Oscar nominations has been a hot topic! With not a single actor of color in the 20 Best Actor and Best Actress categories of the Oscars, the issue of diversity in Hollywood has once again taken center stage, and Oyelowo clearly communicated his opinion in this in this annual Vanity Fair’s Hollywood issue.
During the recent Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Oyelowo again spoke on his Best Actor snub for his portrayal of Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma saying:
“We, as black people, have been celebrated more for when we are subservient, when we are not being leaders or kings or being at the center of our own narrative.”
