20 years old Russian footballer Gasan Magomedov was sprayed with machine gun by unknown assailants while he was driving his car home on Sat. Magomedov became the latest victim in an atrocious and long running battle between Islamic insurgents and the Russian government. The area he and his family is living belongs to a very volatile battleground for many years. Dagestan is one of the region where Islamic insurgents are fighting with the Russian security forces for a protracted period of time.
He was a one time team mate with striker Samuel Ito in the Russian club, Anzhi. It is very unfortunate the young striker became the victim of this political strife as he is carrying the Russian batch in the International tournament.
