The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and his wife Kate arrived in New York City (NYC) today, an event-pack trip that includes visits to a Harlem child development center and the September 11 Monument and Museum. The Royal Couple are staying at the Carlyle Hotel, a favorite of William’s mother, the late Princess Diana, during her frequent visits to Manhattan in the 1990s. Other celebrity guests over the years have included Michael Jackson, Steve Jobs, John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, according to Yahoo News.
On Monday, Prince William will head to the White House to meet with President Barack Obama and later that evening, the Royal Couple will be at the National Basketball Association (NBA) game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center.
There are concerns about disruption of traffic as the Royal Couple are visiting NYC at a time when the city has been taken over by demonstrations from protesters regarding the Eric Garner‘s Chokehold case and police violence. According to Yahoo News “At least one protest is already planned to coincide with the game. A Facebook event page titled “Barclays Stadium, SHUT IT DOWN,” has 83 people saying they would attend the rally in the borough.”
“Foreign dignitaries are going to be at Barclay’s Center tomorrow, so lets shut it (and the mall and Atlantic and Flatbush) down,” the page reads, referring to the two main avenues in Brooklyn.
