President Jonathan together with the Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo Iweala were top Nigerian dignitaries that graced the inaugural launch of a female empowerment event in Abuja on Monday, 9th March. The event tagged ‘Growing Girls and Women in Nigeria’ was held to seek greater educational and economic achievements for young females in Nigeria.
Most of the audience and attendees of this function were young females comprising of students from high schools and institution of higher learning.
The presence of Okonjo Iweala added an impetus to this event as she is largely regarded as a phenomenal woman with great achievements under her record. A two term Minister of Finance and economist by profession, she had served as a Managing Director of World Bank and in 2007 was widely speculated as the replacement for World Bank President when the incumbent at that time, Paul Wolfowitz stepped down. She also briefly served as Foreign Minister in 2006.
