Yesterday, several media outlets reported that President-elect Gen. Buhari gave a directive to ban the Africa Independent Television (AIT) from covering any of his activities. According to media reports however, Gen. Buhari was neither consulted nor informed about the AIT barring, and he only became aware of the issue after it generated a public uproar.
Gen. Buhari has since addressed this news saying he never gave such directives in a statement released yesterday evening and signed by the Director of Publicity for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu.
“The time for change has come and we must avoid making the same mistakes that the outgoing government made” the statement read in part.
The statement also indicated that Gen Buhari instructed his staff to”steer clear of all dealings with the media, and leave all media affairs to his official media team. “I would like everyone to henceforth stay within his/her defined area of responsibility,” Buhari said.
