The Pope was in Manila, Philippines, the only Catholic majority country in Asia, on the second leg of his Asian tour on Friday and paid special tributes to the resilience of the survivors of the typhoon Haiyan disaster that killed over 6,000 people in November 2013 and the global contributions of Filipino migrant workers.
Speaking at the welcoming reception at the Malacanang Presidential Palace, the Pontiff said to his host, President Benigno Aquino Jr and thousands of people gathered there: “Together with many people throughout the world, I have admired the heroic strength, faith and resilience demonstrated by so many Filipino in the face of this natural disaster, and so many others.”
