The Philadelphia 76ers selected Jahlil Okafor of Nigerian descent as the No. 3 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Heading into the draft, the sixers already had a couple of franchise building blocks in the frontcourt with Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid and now they have yet another big and talented center with Okafor, CBS Sports reports!.
For months, everybody anticipated that Karl-Anthony Towns (who was #1 pick – click here if you missed it) and Okafor will be the two top picks in this draft and at the last minute, the Lakers took D’Angelo Russell.
Okafor who was born on December 15, 1995 is of Nigerian descent with his father, Chukwudi Obika Okafor originally hailing from Anambra state while his mother Dacresha Lanett Benton is a mix of African-American and white.
Jahlil Okafor’s basketball career has achieved stellar heights – from winning ACC Player of the Year honors as a freshman at Duke University, to helping lead the Blue Devils to a national championship, and finally on Thursday night, becoming a coveted pick in the NBA draft.
