Following statements issued by two youth groups in Nigeria, the Bayelsa Youth Vanguard and the Mangrove Boys of Bayelsa barring Mrs. Patience Jonathan, from accompanying her husband to the grand rally of the Peoples Democratic Party in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state on February 5, Nigeria’s first lady responded saying that nobody or group could threaten her decision to visit any part of the country.
According to Punch, Mrs. Jonathan was accused by the youths of instigating political uproar in the state and working against Governor Seriake Dickson, which led them to vow to have her not only embarrassed but also disgraced if she shows up at the rally.
However, the spokesman for the President’s wife says the groups are faceless and Mrs. Jonathan would not be intimidated by their threats to avoid visiting any state in the country based on their threats and said: “We will not descend so low to be joining issues with faceless groups.” He continues: “The fact however remains that the First Lady as the wife of the President cannot be threatened by anybody or any group if she decides to visit any part of the country.”
