Ava Du Vernay announced recently at a United Nations event where U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power was present that Paramount Pictures will be sending a free Selma DVD to every high school (public and private) in the United States, as part of an extended “Selma for Students” initiative.
Times reported that the goal of the initiative is to educate American students about equality, tolerance and diversity and the copy of the DVDs will come with a companion guide on the history of Martin Luther’s King and the theme of the movie including the historic march from Montgomery to Selma, Alabama.
The companion guide will also be useful for teachers who want to use the material to teach in the classrooms.
