Texas native Matthew McConaughey will be delivering University of Houston’s first college-wide commencement speech at the college’s spring graduation, which will be holding at the new TDECU stadium this Friday, May 15th!
According to the University, as reported by abc13, the Oscar winner will be receiving a $135,000 speaker fee including a commission fee for booking agency Celebrity Talent International of $20,251. Also, University of Houston will be paying $9,500 for a private jet to bring the actor to the venue, according to Houston Chron.
McConaughey is reportedly donating $130,000 of the speaking fee to his Just Keep Livin Foundation, an organization he founded to empower high school students by providing them with tools to lead active lives and make healthy choices for a better future. The remaining $5,000 is considered an “expenses buyout” in the contract, which will cover any additional incidental costs.
McConaughey has appeared in over 40 feature films that have collectively grossed over $1 billion. In 2014, he starred in the HBO series “True Detective,” which landed him the Critics Choice and Television Critics Association Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series, as well as an Emmy Nomination. He also earned numerous awards for the critically acclaimed “Dallas Buyers Club,” including the Academy Award for his portrayal of AIDS-stricken Ron Woodruff in the movie.
