Jerry Weintraub, the great Hollywood producer died on Monday, 6th July in his home in Santa Barbara. It was confirmed by his publicist who revealed that the 77 year old died from a cardiac arrest, New York Times reports. Weintraub was the producer of the Ocean 11 and 13 movies; he also produced Karate Kid and Diner.
An article by Fox Carolina news stated that he made his name in the 1960s as a music manager and concert promoter, working with such high-profile acts as Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin.
E! News also reported that he was a three-time Emmy winner. In 2007, he had his hand and footprints immortalized in cement at what is now Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theater alongside with Ocean Eleven stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.
On a mournful note, some of his colleagues and friends have expressed sadness and despair over his death.
George Clooney, a long-time friend and actor in the Ocean 11 movie said:
“In the coming days there will be tributes about our friend Jerry Weintraub. We’ll laugh at his great stories, and applaud his accomplishments. And in the years to come the stories and accomplishments will get better with age, just as Jerry would have wanted it. But not today. Today our friend died,” actor George Clooney said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
“To his family and friends, Amal and I send our love. And to those who didn’t know him we send our deepest sympathy. You would have loved him.”
Brad Pitt also gave a statement saying:
“He was an absolute original. I loved him and will genuinely miss him.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger stated:
“Jerry Weintraub is larger than life. He was a giant in Hollywood & his heart was so big it lit up the town. My thoughts are with his family.”
