Jack Eyers might be an amputee but this did not prevent him from having a career as a model. The British walked down the runway at New York Fashion Week last week Sunday, showcasing new styles by famous designer, Antonio Urzi. The 25-year-old was thrilled to be chosen for such a big show, which featured models with disabilities from around the world. “To feature as a male amputee model on a New York Fashion Week runway feels amazing – it feels like such a big deal”, Eyers told Caters News.
Jack Eyers was born with proximal femoral focal deficiency, a medical condition that affected the growth of his right leg. At the age of 16, he chose to have his leg amputated due to pain and discomfort. He now works as a spokesperson for Models of Diversity, an agency that aims to promote diversity on the runway.
Furthermore Eyers, who was nominated for “Man of the Year” by Men’s Health magazine, spoke on his own disability and how this misfortune did not keep him away from the runway: “I just want to show that having a disability doesn’t need to hold you back. I want people to see me, and to realize that there needs to be more disabled models walking the runway.”
