Brazil Mining Giant Killed Alongside His Family In Plane Crash

The former chief executive of the world’s largest iron ore miner and his family have been killed in a plane crash in Brazil.

Roger Agnelli, 56, was among the seven people who lost their lives when the plane crashed in a residential area of Brazil’s largest city Sao Paulo. The former boss of the Brazilian mining giant Vale was travelling with his wife and two children. A pilot and two other passengers were also killed.

Dramatic images show firefighters battling to extinguish the fire after the seven-seater plane rammed into a building in Sao Paulo’s northern suburbs.
It had reportedly just taken off from the nearby Campo de Marte airport.

One person on the ground was injured, while two others were safely removed from the building, a spokesman for the local fire department said.

No cause has been given for the crash.

During Mr Agnelli’s decade as CEO, from 2001-2011, Vale became Brazil’s top exporter.
