A 29 years old Nigerian, Onyejiekwe Morgan Chinemeren was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand in a drug sting by the Thailand Police, with 31.47 gm of crystal methamphetamine or known as ‘ Ice’ in local parlance, as reported by Pulse.
According to a press communique released jointly by Police Commissioner, Lt. General Sriwarah Rangsitpramkul and Police Colonel Suthep Chanasit in Bangkok recently, the Nigerian man was apprehended at the stairways of his residence in the Bang Kapi district of Bangkok, while trying to flee. According to the source of the communique, Onyejiekwe was arrested while trying to flee with another Nigerian man still at large during a police sting operation after a tipoff.
Onyejiekwe was reportedly part of a drug syndicate who uses a local with the pseudonym of ‘M’ as a delivery/courier boy. A police informant who was in contact with ‘M’ while trying to purchase the drug led authorities to the suspects in their rented apartment.
“‘M’ then told the Nigerian men that a customer would like to buy 30 grammes of crystal methamphetamine and 200 grams of cocaine for 460,000 bahts (about $14,000 or almost N3 million)” said Suthep.
‘M’ led the detectives to the room of the Nigerian men to purchase the drugs and it was there that the police found two Nigerians in the room.
The punishment for drug trafficking in Thailand is death penalty.
