Malaysian Woman met her ‘Caucasian’ Boyfriend on Facebook who turned out to be a Nigerian Scammer!
According to a source from The Star, a teacher in Malaysia had been involved in an ‘internet romance’ for about two months ago with a ‘white Caucasian’ she met on Facebook was astonished when he turned out to be a Nigerian. After they started dating, the ‘white man’ requested from her to help him out of his financial constraints and she had wired about Malaysian Ringgit (RM) 130,000 or US$35,815 through a local bank to him. He promised to repay her double the amount and in US currency.
When the woman met up with him in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur to obtain the repayment of the money she borrowed him, she was shocked he was a Nigerian! The man handed her a black briefcase containing US$22,100 (RM81,770) “cash”. She then checked the notes and found that the currency was not like the original US dollar bills.
She subsequently alerted the police and the Nigerian man was detained.
“So we checked and found that the ‘cash’ was fake. He was immediately arrested and brought to the district headquarters,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Zainol of the Malaysian Police said.
Police then detained the Nigerian, who entered the country a week ago, at about 2.05 p.m. The case is currently being investigated under Section 489C of the Penal Code for possession of fake money.
