Video: Two Nigerian Writers ‘Helon Habila’ & ‘Teju Cole’ receive $150,000 Windham Campbell Prize!

Two Nigerian extraordinary writers, ‘Helon Habila‘ & ‘Teju Cole‘ were recent recipients of this year’s Windham Campbell Literature Prizes administered by Ivy League institution, Yale University, valued at $150,000 per recipient. The Windham Campbell prize is considered quite unique and in a class of its own, because the winners are selected from a pool of writers nominated without their knowledge by other writers and academics from all over the world with the final decision on the selected winners resting with the panel of judges.

The prize is awarded to “honor and support writers anywhere in the world writing in English.”

This year there were 61 nominees from 12 countries and all three fiction awards were swept away by Africans as the 3rd fiction position went to South Africa’s Ivan Vladislavić. The organizers of the award name winners in each of the following three categories—fiction, nonfiction, and drama.
