The Nigerian telecommunication and internet provider company, MTN surprised the star winner of “Who deserves to Be Surprised”, a special edition of  “Who wants to be a millionaire” program held last December with a N50 million check. The prize winner is expected to receive a house but the winner “Omotola Akinsola” opted for the cash equivalent of the property and received a check worth N50 million from the the General Manager for Consumer Marketing, Richard Iweanoge at the Ultima studio in Lekki, Lagos. Her father, Professor Akinsola was there to witness the presentation ceremony. The runner-up, a retired nurse, Iyabode Olasumbo Sodiya Dawodu was given a brand new Kia Cerato.

Ms. Akinsola runs a social education program for underprivileged youth called ‘JumpStart Academy‘, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) through which she recruits academic staffs from Universities and Colleges to provide tutoring to secondary school students who cannot afford the fees in preparation for college entrance examinations.

The organizer of the event said that it was because of her noble efforts that the company surprised her with this “Who deserve to be surprised” award. Ms. Akinsola also mentioned that she intends to use the major part of the prize money to further her course of providing free education to poor students through her NGO “JumpStart Academy.”
